Just BARELY in time…

Okay…I think I (GASP!) have everything I need for the bathroom picked out.  (However, I am unsure that the tub and the shower enclosure actually match.  I chose them separately and I *THINK * they’re both white…but the tub may be more of an off-white than the enclosure…so I need to confirm that.  But otherwise, I’m as close to happy as I’m going to get, I think.

I owe a HUGE part of that to having broken with the contractor’s wishes and shopped at Lowes instead of Home Depot.  I felt MISERABLE shopping at Home Depot.  Partially, I just don’t think they have very good service/products.  But they also seriously wronged my brother a few years ago (again, his story, not mine…so I won’t tell it) and I felt like a traitor to the family even walking in there.  I HATED the thought of giving them even one penny…and I’m glad that now I will not be directly (or indirectly) responsible for that.  It genuinely felt like betrayal.  YOU try picking out tile samples when you feel like you’re going against the family.

I can sum up the bathroom in one word.  Old.  If I used two, I would also say, “bronze.”  I found this mirror, towel bar, toilet paper holder, and robe hook in a deep bronze and a deep bronze shower door.  It’s a real old-world vibe.  I am absolutely in LOVE with the mirror and the whole “bronze” thing.  Even the light fixture is going that direction.  I almost don’t even CARE about the tub now that I know I’ve got the bronze/old-world look developing.  I think I’m going to paint the walls a deep, deep red.  Almost so burgundy it’s brown.  Maybe I’ll leave the wall above the bath-tub white, though…might be nice to have a splash of white in there aside from the toilet.  (Who knows?  Once it’s all going up, I might like it against the bare white…but I don’t think so, ha ha.)

The tile I chose on for the floor has a sort of “slate” feel to it.  I like it.  It’s kind of eye-catching, but sort of subdued.  Hang on…let me post a picture…

Should end up in 13" x 13" squares with kind of a grey grout...but I think the actual tile will be a little bit lighter, overall (though not much).

Neat, huh?

Oh, and I’m putting in a TILTING mirror and NO medicine cabinet.  Instead, there will be a shelf.  A glass shelf with (you guessed it) a bronze base.  Here are pictures of those…

The mirror that kind of started bringing the room together for me. I don't know if I care about anything in the room BUT this mirror! The shelf...this picture doesn't really do it justice though...
The shelf...but this picture doesn't really do it justice.

It’s finally coming together.  Worth the sleep I lost?  Ah…no.  Worth the baths I’ll take?  Sure, why not?

…and as a side note, I very nearly titled this post, “And now I may shit in peace.”

And I also made it by the comic books store!  Here’s what I bought (to be reviewed in this week’s “Empty Checking”):

  • Scarlet – Issues #1 and #2.  – Really good read that the comic book guy virtually forced into my hands…and I thank him.
  • 1 Month 2 Live – Issue #1 of 5
  • Red Hood: The Lost Days #4 of 6
