The following are not my words. I didn’t write this. I don’t agree with 100% of it. Some of it, I feel, is a little harsh and unreasonable. Yeah…ME. I think this is a little harsh. I considered letting it just slip by, but considering how passionately I’ve written about politics on this blog over the past couple of years, I felt like this should be posted here—and I thought it was a pretty interesting benchmark that I should post this as my 600th post. Thanks to my friend Marc for posting this on his blog (link to the right), where I read it for the first time a few days ago.
This was the DNC’s response to the GOP’s disdain for President Obama’s receipt of the Nobel Prize:
“The Republican Party has thrown in its lot with the terrorists — the Taliban and Hamas this morning — in criticizing the President for receiving the Nobel Peace prize. Republicans cheered when America failed to land the Olympics and now they are criticizing the President of the United States for receiving the Nobel Peace prize — an award he did not seek but that is nonetheless an honor in which every American can take great pride — unless of course you are the Republican Party. The 2009 version of the Republican Party has no boundaries, has no shame and has proved that they will put politics above patriotism at every turn. It’s no wonder only 20 percent of Americans admit to being Republicans anymore – it’s an embarrassing label to claim.”
Like I said…I don’t fully agree with all of that. I know and am friends with a BUNCH of Republicans, few of whom I would consider bad Americans—even those who I disagree with the most frequently and extremely… (Though I do think it’s a valid point that B-Dawg didn’t ASK for this award and was as surprised as anyone…and also I didn’t know we were down to only like 20% of the country admitting to being Republican. Last I heard, it was more like 35%…but whatever.)
…but I’ve got to say…where the hell has THAT been for the past 10 years? These are the same guys who didn’t even shake a finger at Bush, aren’t they? What happened? Did the DNC finally hit puberty and grow a pair? Glad to see the fire back in the party…even if it was burning a little hot on this one.
On a side note…thanks to the handful of you who’ve read all 600 posts and been there through bad and good. (Mostly Angela and Nik, I’d imagine.) When I hit 1000, we’s gon’ get silly.
