I know a couple going to the Leonard Cohen show this weekend who are VERY excited that he's finally coming around St Louis again. I hope you enjoy it. You probably won't see them - and even if you did, that'd be a short conversation. "i kinda know you, but not really..." "okay, bye."

Thanks, both of you, for your comments. I know that when I found out last night, I probably spent 30-60 minutes just clicking around Facebook to see if someone was going to post something like, "No no...you've all got the wrong name" or something...unfortunately, it just ended up being confirmed again and again.

If you're interested and haven't heard yet, visitation is tomorrow (Thursday) at Collier's on Lindbergh from 4-8. (I'll be stopping by after work.) Funeral's Friday at Harvestar (10 a.m., I think...but I knew I'd be at work, so I may not have the time right as I didn't listen too closely.)

Tom was a really nice man and while I only attending the one semester at SLCC (I had friends that went there for a long time) he knew my name too. He will be really missed by his family and a whole lot of people he may or may not have remembered but we sure remember him.

I think there must be lots of people who still have cassette players, they still sell blank tapes at some Walgreens. I also hear that some of the indie/punk bands are recording to cassette in the last few years. And as we all know the recent revival of vinyl can be attributed to the fact that the indie community never let it go. So maybe tapes will come back from the dead too...Like ZOMBIES!

Anytime you set out to explain anything, your explanation will always be lengthier than the idea your explaining. Otherwise, it they would call it a summary.

This is especially true when it comes to differing languages. When you have to translate what someone says, but then also remind them to view what was said in the speakers culture and also explain any idioms that may not make sense...the explanation is bound to be longer.

I think that's the beauty of God's word too. That it never gets so simple that we can completely wrap our minds around it. I don't think God's intent for the Bible was to soley be a simple guide to life and systematic theology, so much as it was to be inspiring and provoking. There's always another, deeper level of understanding that can be attained. We're never going to be able to say, "I've finally got it all figured out!"

That's my 3 cents.

I have a CD & cassette player in my car. It's a 2001. I liked tapes a lot and played some until they fell apart. I still have some of those sappy high school sweetheart mix tapes rolling around.

It is sad that the format died so quietly with so little fanfare. I think that there are still die-hard vinyl fans hanging around, but you won't likely see anyone bragging about their cassette collection. Well, except maybe me.
